No-Till, Organic Farming

Through regenerative farming, we work to revitalize the soil and ecosystem while being thoughtful stewards of the land.

Our Story

Who we are

The Patterson family, consisting of Emma, Doug and Page have been connecting the community with locally grown organic produce throughout the Taos Valley for the past 10 years and counting. They share a passion for regenerative farming and local food systems.

Our roots

Rio Lucero Farms started over 10 years ago in the Pattersons’ backyard with just a few small plots and a love for growing food in the high desert. Over time, that small family project turned into something much bigger, expanding from less than an acre to three growing sites, with a fourth on the way. Today, they supply fresh produce to the Farmers Market and local restaurants, and are working toward opening a permanent store and market stand. The Pattersons continue to learn, grow, and share their harvest with the community.

Our crops consist of those that thrive in a high desert environment.

The growing season here is dramatic, with frigid cold in late spring and early fall, long dry days in between, and unpredictable precipitation. We use drip irrigation, row cover, and mulch to conserve every drop of water.

We grow a wide range of crops that thrive in our cool climate, including kale, bok choy, spinach, chard, peas, carrots, and beets early in the season. Later, we harvest squash, melons, corn, garlic, onions, celery, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and potatoes. While we have our steady favorites, we’re always experimenting with new varieties and companion planting with herbs and flowers.
